Welcome

Congratulations on making the choice to improve your health and wellness!

How did I become so passionate about holistic nutrition? My whole childhood I struggled with frequent illness, allergies and asthma, causing me to spend entirely too much of my childhood medicated and in hospitals. As an adolescent I did not menstruate regularly, and while I wondered at this, it felt convenient! lol!
My aunt introduced me to traditional nutrition while I was in graduate school at the University of Virginia, finishing my Masters in Statistics. At age 21, in 2008, I began attending conferences hosted by the Weston A Price Foundation, learning about traditional diets and how they support health and prevent degenerative disease. I began to eat more animal products and healthy fats under the care of renowned nutritionist, Kim Schuette. Over the next few years, as I began my career in Data Science, Kim helped me detox and heal of severe asthma, allergies, and adrenal hormone deficiencies.

My healing journey caused me to become so passionate about the power of food to heal, how the body naturally detoxifies, that I decided to formalize my education by pursuing a masters degree in Holistic Nutrition.

I bring over 14 years of personal experience, more nutrition education than a certified NTP and a critical eye for statistical analysis when I examine medical research. However, I am not a physician nor a licensed practitioner, and therefore cannot prescribe medicine or diagnose illness.

Let's work together! We will assess your personal goals and desires for holistic wellness. I expect this to be a mutually beneficial relationship!

I can develop protocols specifically for you, including:
  • Lifestyle, diet and nutrition evaluation
  • Dietary guidance to increase vitality based on your individual lifestyle and needs
  • Grocery shopping coaching, meal planning and/or pantry clean-out to support your desired lifestyle changes
  • Detoxification guidance where necessary
  • Recommendations for further assessments when necessary
  • Recommendations of nutritional supplements
  • Stress management techniques
  • Physical activities to enhance health
As we apply these strategies, you will experience better vitality than ever before. I will share with you positive feedback and encourage you as you achieve your goals.

Cabbage

Cabbage is high in Vitamin K1 (this needs to be converted to K2 in your body) andantioxidants, especially Vitamin C ! Fermenting cabbage increases the Vitamin content and provides friendly gut bacteria , or probiotics! Try this sauerkraut recipe - you can do this with white or red cabbage, and add any of the vegetables listed below for some fun flare. Cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and kohlrabi. These vegetables are full of nutrients, however, they can be hard to digest for some people and I recommend cooking or fermenting them in order to ease digestion and allow your body to take advantage of thier nutrients more easily. Cabbage is anti-inflammatory and rich in the popular polyphenols, especially red cabbage! Cabbage goes well with any combination of the following: carrots onions (red, white, yellow, spring onions) cumin (seeds or powder) cilantro & lime bell peppers (don't cook these as...

Gestation Weight Gain- and why this number doesn't matter

Recently I have been looking into pregnancy complications related to Gestational Weight Gain (GWG), or weight that women gain during pregnancy. This is of personal interest to me because during my first pregnancy, I gained over 50lbs, (and then stopped looking!) well over the guidelines. However, I had a very healthy pregnancy, a complication-free home birth, a beautiful smart baby, and I lost all the weight a little over a year. Despite the GWG guidelines, I propose that poor outcomes are actually caused by poor health, especially high blood pressure and diabetes (aka metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance). Each of these can be prevented by living a nutrient dense active lifestyle. Pregnant women should be educated not on the numbers on the scale, but on how to eat a nutrient dense diet to foster a healthy baby.
